While I was in high school, I produced several videos, including school musicals, class projects and a documentary which received finalist standing at the British Columbia Student Film and Video Festival. A formative film, Lover's Lost in the Wild's, produced for a grade 11 English IB class involved over 20 fellow students and was based on a well developed script. We managed to shoot and edit the 23 minute film in the same day... talk about efficiency!!
During my five year computer science program at the University of British Columbia, I convinced a few of my friends it would be fun to make a few films. We banded together under the guise of externalLink('http://saturn.vfx.com/loup/','Strange Loup Productions'); ?> and produced two films - The Director and Cr@cKeRz. A year later, we formed the externalLink('http://www.vanwinckelstudios.com/disconnected/','UBC Video Production Club'); ?> and with a grant from the Walter Gage Memorial fund, produced Disconnected. The fall after graduating from UBC, I took a part time "Directing for Film" class at the externalLink('http://www.vfs.com/','Vancouver Film School'); ?>. We produced a 16mm short called, Buddy Glasier.
